Playlist of the Month: Put Some Pep in Your Step

January gets a bad reputation (in the northern hemisphere, at least). It’s cold and gray. The holidays are over. Everyone is cranky after trying New Year’s resolutions.

Sounds like January needs a little pep in its step.

So, here’s a playlist to have you grooving on snowy mornings, get you going at the gym, or help you smile on your drive to work. These songs will help brighten any day.

  • “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” by The Beach Boys. Nothing puts me in a good mood like The Beach Boys. Armed with this song, I’m ready to take on even the worst days. It almost makes me want to skip.
  • “Shut Up and Dance” by Walk the Moon.I’ve been hooked on this song since I first heard it on the radio. Whenever it comes on, I start jamming out at my desk or in my car. I definitely follow the instructions to “shut up and dance.”
  • “Soak Up the Sun” by Sheryl Crow. As a kid, my mom had the coolest car ever. It was a Volkswagen convertible, and we used to drive everywhere listening to this song. Now it reminds me long drives with the wind in my hair and the sun on my face. Isn’t that just what January needs more of?
  • “I Got You (I Feel Good)” by James Brown. I may or may not sing this to myself when I’m getting ready in the morning. Can you blame me for wanting to sing and pose along with the Godfather of Soul? It’s a great way to start the day.
  • “Best Day of My Life” by American Authors. Speaking of songs that promise to make your day better, I thought this one was a good send off. How can you not smile, maybe even shimmy a little, on the best day of your life?
